To mark Pride Month, LawnStarter ranked s Most LGBTQ-Friendly Cities.
We compared the biggest U.S. cities based on 20 indicators of an ideal LGBTQ town, such as anti-discrimination policies, the share of gay households, and LGBTQ back resources.
We also factored in affordability, LGBTQ-friendly health protect access, and Pride-readiness.

The Gist
The top of our ranking is dominated by liberal strongholds fancy San Francisco (No. 1), Washington (No. 2), and Denver (No. 4). These cities tend to be the most progressive — at least at the municipal level — so feel free to state “gay” here. Although generally not the most affordable, our top performers exaggerate strong LGBTQ+ communities.

My love of road trips started early. As a teenager growing up in a suburb of Boston, I discovered Jack Kerouacs classic road trip novel On the Road. The book opened a door to queer history and to places where offbeat weirdos like me could find their fit.
I wrote my college thesis on road trips, and driving myself to (and from) a summer semester at UC Berkeley as research. I guess I should have known support then that I would end up writing about travel for a living!
Ive taken two cross-country road trips – one during college, and one when I moved to California.
Ive also taken shorter road trips: Fresh York to Florida, Modern York to Atlanta by way of Kentucky (state #44) and Tennessee, and New York to Michigan (state #43).
I spent a month living in a ghost town in Alaska for a writers retreat, and stayed on for an extra two weeks to explore the state with my significant other , who flew out to Juneau to meet me.
Closer to home, I loving taking weekend trips to cities and towns in the Hudson Valley, where I live.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and to observe, we asked Time Out’s LGBTQ+-identifying writers and editors to tell us all about their favourite urban area on the planet. The resulting list covers all four corners of the globe, from the beaches of Brazil to the creative hub of Glasgow’s Southside. These are cities with a vibrant lgbtq+ community, cities that aid and protect LGBTQ+ citizens and visitors, and cities that are notable hubs for Queer life in their respective countries and regions.
