June is LGBTQ Self-acceptance Month. To mark the occasion, and to lay some tech-related spin on things, I thought I’d look at the foremost streaming services with LGBTQ related content. I’ll also note any major animation-related LGBTQ content on each service.

HBO Max
Thanks to its ties to HBO, HBO Max has a sizable catalog of LGBTQ content, even if it doesn’t have a dedicated category. Various documentaries, movies, and TV shows are available, including &#;Degrassi&#; and &#;Our Flag Means Death.&#;
Animation-wise, the shows that turned up when searching “LGBTQ”: “Steven Universe,” “Harley Quinn,” and “Adventure Time.”
Hulu
Hulu offers a section titled “Pride Never Stops.” Older sitcoms like “Will and Grace” and “The L Word” are featured, along with newer shows prefer “Pose,” “Love, Victor” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Animation-wise, Hulu has “Steven Universe,” as well as “The Bravest Knight.” The latter is a series about a knight-in-training who grew up and married the kingdom’s prince. The prince is voiced by openly same-sex attracted actor Wilson Cruz.

It’s that time again, folks. Streaming service curators and social media managers are dusting off their Identity festival collections and celebratory posts, and while corporate Event sentiment has always felt hollow, the messages and collections curated by these streamers feels more performative than ever this year, mostly thanks to the brutal year queer visibility has had.
Though the main worry in regards to queer representation over the years has been the Bury Your Gays trope, lately, it seems that sentiment has shifted from killing queer characters to instead canceling queer shows, and in some cases, removing them from platforms entirely. Netflix is usually the streaming service to feel the wrath of queer fans, considering how many LGBTQ+ shows contain met their demise after just one or two seasons on the platform, but newer streamers enjoy Disney+, Max, and Hulu have now begun removing canceled series.
While queer shows getting canceled hurts, the disappearing act hits the hardest; representation is about being seen on screen, these shows act appreciate lifelines for queer audiences, and making them occupied and inaccessible is depriving queer people of a tangible connection to people

It’s safe to say a lot of people had a lot of problems with the switch from HBO Max to Max, but there was at least one upside to the streaming shakeup. Now, it’s easier than ever to find the excellent queer stories floating around Warner Bros. Discovery&#;s platform.
During its lifespan, HBO Max never had an LGBTQ tag to filter its offerings and support subscribers find stories about the queer community more easily: a surprising maneuver for a streamer named after the channel that brought us boundary-breaking works like “Six Feet Under” and the miniseries adaptation of “Angels in America.” That’s been remedied on Max, which features an “LGBTQ+ Voices” collection. You do have to scroll quite far down the homepage to find it in the collections carousel, but when you undertake, it makes searching for the queer films and shows on the streamer considerably easier. And that&#;s a wonderful thing because the streamer has some great ones.
No, Max hasn’t brought back some of the queer works enjoy “Generation” or “Legendary” that were among the casualties of the HBO Max content cuts from last year.
