What is gay cruise
A few years back one of my closest friends encouraged me to donate an Atlantis gay cruise a try. I mind to myself, “It honestly sounds overwhelming and almost scary.” Yet I was intrigued. I am not a fan of cruises as is; the notion of being stuck on a boat with the same people and accompanying some “cruise director’s” events/destinations sounded limiting and deflating. However, after his continued persistence I eventually caved, and embarked on what would turn out to be a truly life-changing vacation. Sounds crazy right? It was not, and in fact, was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The precious memories and strong friendships with people from all over the world I have developed wouldn’t haven’t have been possible anywhere else.
My initial reluctance and eventual realization of what these cruises could signify is why I experience so strongly motivated to share the experiences I and many others had on this year’s trip and hope to convince you of how “worth it” a vacation fancy this can be.
So first, what is an Atlantis Gay Cruise? Atlantis is a company that charters cruise ships (ex. Royal Caribbean) for a week’s second, on which they sort and coordinate most of

The Freddie Guide to: Cruising
What is gay cruising?
Straight cruising is a vacay on a boat. Gay cruising is the art of hooking up in common.
Cruising is almost always anonymous, and can be one-on-one, in groups, or with others watching. It’s done by using non-verbal cues to show you’re both interested – ponder of it like a secret, horny code. Some people will have sex right there, while some may take their loved one to a more prudent location.
Where did cruising arrive from?
Cruising has a prolonged history in the homosexual community. There are recorded cruising spots in cities like Toronto, London and New York dating endorse over a hundred years. In the time before gay bars, when homosexuality was illegal, public places were often the only option for queer people to meet each other.
Evidence for this often comes from prosecution records – we know where people were cruising based on arrests for “sodomy” or “gross indecency”. These were historic offences made to criminalize gay sex, and were almost exclusively applied to queer men. Sodomy and indecency laws were common throughout the British Empire, but have been repealed in most countries.
In the US, anti-sodomy laws were r
We recently went on our second gay cruise with Atlantis Events and to say it was phenomenal would be an understatement.
After we wrote our first blog on Atlantis: 12 Things you need to know about a male lover cruise we had a lot of people asking about travelling solo or as a single person on a gay cruise.
Atlantis certainly caters as a gay cruise for singles and everything in between (see ‘Who goes on a gay cruise’ which covers a diverse range of people – everything from open couples, closed couples, throuples, solo travellers and groups of friends).
Since we travelled as a couple, it’s not unbiased for us to inform you about what its really like to depart on a gay cruise as a single person. That’s why we joined with fellow Brit, Ben (a different Ben!).
Ben went on his first homosexual cruise as a free, solo traveller and we ran a short interview him so that you can learn what to expect, and hopefully place some of your concerns to bed.
We can’t communicate highly enough about the cruise, so we expectation that this encourages you to join us next year!
