In the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX, a ardent NFL fan declared Hurts was a favorite of “lesbian nation.” To solidify the declaration, she superimposed his handsome headshot in front of the queer woman flag, adding a hoop earring for good measure.
Known for his bruising and physical style of play, it’s easy to see why Hurts would be lesbian-coded. The multi-time Pro Bowler can squat and deadlift more than 500 pounds and bench press 275 pounds, making him a force to be reckoned with. His signature move is the “tush push,” in which he lines up under center and has multiple teammates push him forward from behind.

The NFL nature bled into mainstream news and political culture in the two weeks after Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made controversial comments about the role of women in culture during a commencement speech at Benedictine College on May 11.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has made it known he doesn’t agree with the letter of Butker’s speech. In fact, he made it clear that women simply aren’t respected enough.
Butker’s speech took aim at things like IVF, abortion rights, LGBTQ issues, and other controversial social issues in our political landscape. Butker, a devout Catholic, also made comments that some viewed as insensitive when he praised his wife’s role as a homemaker in front of a group of college graduates who had just spent big bucks to get a college degree and presumably start a career.

"I knew a long time ago,” says Hurts about Burrows in a 2023 interview with ESSENCE. “I represent , to this point in my life, that’s an irreplaceable feeling.
