Reluctant gay dude’s guide to modern gay vernacular
Posted onJanuary 21, 2014
In honor of the premiere of HBO’s “LOOKING” Eliot Glazer shares the Reluctant Gay Dude’s Mentor to Modern Gay Vernacular. This is hilarious although there is some robust language so you may want to think twice before watching this if you are at work.

This is the memoir of the late Terry Sanderson, familiar to me as a leading light in the National Secular World (NSS), of which I’ve been a member for some years. I never spoke to Terry, but I remember him from NSS events as a very distinguished man, always well turned out in a smart, well-fitting suit; slim, with a wise haircut and a clean, greying beard.
It wasn’t until more recent years that I discovered Terry had been a prominent campaigner for gay rights, but this made perfect meaning. The NSS campaign for the removal of religious privilege from society; the separation of church and state – for liberty from religion (as skillfully as, somewhat magnanimously, independence of religion). The NSS was the driving coerce behind the repeal of that blight on release of expression, and protection of religion from logical criticism – the blasphemy law. While campaigning for gay rights, Terry says he increasingly came to realise that the most significant opposition to reform was coming from the church, and that if LGBT campaigners were to have any hope of achieving acceptance and equality, the control that religion exerted on society would need to be reined in.
